Drug Category: Cephalosporin.
Generic Name: Cephalexin.
Contents: Caps 250mg/500mg: Cephalexin 250mg/500mg.
Drops: Per 1.25ml: Cephalexin 125mg; after re-constitution as per instruction on the pack. IM/IV Inj 500mg: Per vial: Cephalexin 500mg. Syp 125mg/250mg: Per 5ml: Cephalexin 125mg /250mg; after reconstitution as per direction men­tioned on the pack.
Indications: Infections of the respiratory tract, ENT, urinary tract, skin, soft tissue and bones. Gynecological and obstetrical infections. Gonorrhoea and syphilis. Dental procedures.
Dosage: Adults: Usually 1-2gm daily in two to four divided doses. Children: Under 3 months. 65.5-125mg twice daily; 4 months-2 years, 250-500mg daily; 3-6 years, 1 -2gm daily. All in two to four divided doses.
Precautions: Renal impairment. Hypersensitivity to penicillins.
Interactions: Loop diuretics.
Adverse effects: Gl disturbances.

Contents: Cream/Lotion/Oint: 0.1% betamethasone as the valerate ester. 0.5% neomycin sulphate (3,500 units per gm or per ml).
Indications: Conditions where secondary bacterial infection is present, suspected or likely to occur: Eczema, including atopic, infantile, discoid and stasis eczemas. Insect bites, sunburn, prickly heat, anal and vulva) pruritus and otitis externa.

Drug Category: Selective beta2-agonist
Generic Name: Salbutamol.
Contents: Inj: Per 1ml amp: Salbutamol sulphate equiv to 0.5mg salbutamol. SF Syp: Per 5ml: Salbutamol 2mg as sulphate;sugar free.SR Tabs 8mg: Salbutamol 8mg; sustained-release tabs. Tabs 2mg/4mg: Salbutamol 2mg/4mg as sulphate.
Indications: Inj: Sever bronchospasm and status asthmaticus. Uncomplicated premature labour. Syp/Tabs: Bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Uncomplicated premature labour.
Dosage: Inj: Severe bronchospasm and status asthmaticus: Adults: 8mcg/kg SC or IM four hourly, or 4mcg/kg by slow IV inj repeated if necessary. Children: Not recommended. Uncompli­cated premature labour: 100-250mcg by IV infusion or IV inj or IM inj. The dose may be repeated according to the response of the patient. Once the uterine contractions have ceased, maintenance therapy can be continued with Ventolin Tab 4mg given three or four times daily. Syp/Tabs: Bronchial complaints: Adults: 2-4mg three or four times daily. Children: Under 2 years, not recommended; 2-6 years, 1-2mg; 6-12 years, 2mg. Both three or four times daily.
Contra-ind: Though Ventolin Inj are recommended for the prevention of uncomplicated premature labour, their use in premature labour associated with toxemia of pregnancy or ante-partum haemorrhage from whatever cause is contraindicated. Threatened abortion during first or second trimester of pregnancy. History of hypersensitivity.
Precautions: Hyperthyroidism, myocardial insufficiency, angina, cardiac arrhythmias, hypertension, pregnancy.
Interactions: Sympathomimetics.
Adverse effects: Fine tremor, feeling of tension, headache, tachycardia, peripheral vasodilatation.
